This research aims to investigate the implementation of the Dictogloss technique in improving students’ vocabulary mastery in the recount text at the grade VIII students of SMPN 10 Kota Gorontalo. Using a quantitative descriptive research method, the study utilized a pre-test and post-test design to measure students’ vocabulary improvement. The participants were selected using purposive sampling focusing on class VIII-3, identified as having the lowest English proficiency. The treatment involved six sessions using the Dictogloss technique, targeting vocabulary indicators such as nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Data collection was conducted through multiple-choice tests administered before and after the treatment. The results revealed a significant improvement in students’ vocabulary mastery, as evidenced by statistical analysis (Sig. (2-tailed) = .000), indicating that the increase was due to the applied technique rather than chance. The study concludes that the Dictogloss technique effectively enhances vocabulary acquisition by integrating listening, note-taking, collaboration, and reconstruction skills. This technique is recommended as an alternative strategy for enriching English vocabulary learning at the junior high school level.
