JELARITA (JELAJAH CERITA) DALAM MENINGKATKAN LITERASI MEMBACA BERBASIS PENDIDIKAN INFORMAL

Education is a series of activities that continue throughout life. Education as an access for every individual to gain knowledge and understanding, whether formal, non-formal, or informal. Education has various aspects of activities that actually have the same goal, namely improving the quality of self and providing real experiences for each individual, with different structures and aspects. Informal education in Indonesia is still very low with limited literacy skills of children in the current educational world. Therefore, informal education remains an important issue that must be improved by all levels of family, friends and communities. The focus of this community service activity is the JELARITA (story exploration) project in improving reading literacy to improve reading literacy in children through an informal education approach. This activity is carried out in the home environment using a story-based play approach. The purpose of this JELARITA (story exploration) project is to increase interest in the children's story book “Si Juma'ati and the Magic Polopalo" originating from Gorontalo. The method used is a qualitative approach. The results of this community service activity show enthusiasm in understanding the moral messages contained in children's stories. Therefore, this activity is one strategy in improving children's reading literacy.
